Yes. They've got VW engines. I've got a Skoda Octavia estate and it is very powerful. Not totally pretty, but very practical.

My mum has a fabia estate 1.4 8v - While its slow in comparison to my 1.8astra its still pretty nippy especially on the motorway. As a lot of people have already said, Skoda is owned by the Volkswagen-Audi Group, & they use the fantastic 1.9TDi in a lot of the cars. The tuned version of this turns up in the Fabia vRs.
Top Gear raced this against a Mini Cooper - whilst the cooper handled better, especially in the corners, the Fabia destroyed it on the straights, & eventually won the race!
So, in answer to ur question,
YES.
Anyone who still thinks Skodas r rubbish, do not actually know anything about cars!

they can be depends on the spec as diesels are slow going up hills and run out of revs to quickly but the octavia v-rs ''the police use'' have audi tt engines in them so you are buying a audi tt for less personely l would go for a vw passat 20v or a vw golf gti

Skoda are part of VAG (Volkswagen-Audi Group) so their underpinnings are Volkswagen i.e Octavia is a VW Passat etc. Skoda Fabia VRS Diesel is a good one.

Fantastic motors. l now drive the Fabia VRS SE, my second VRS. l used to drive VW is but went onto Skoda's. Exact same build quality of Audi and VW, but half the price!! - Who is laughing?
Fast and powerfull? They are only as fast as you want them to be, and yes they are powerful, the diesel engine in the VRS has sooooooooooo much torque!!!
